What to Expect:
In the early spring months, the Milky Way appears in a very low position. In this workshop, I will take advantage of the Milky Way in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. With three days of chasing the stars we will capture the Milky Way rising over Bodie Island Lighthouse, Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, and the Oregon Inlet Life Saving Station. There is a possibility of capturing in a fourth location depending on timing and weather. The lighthouses and the Oregon Inlet Life Saving station make for a very compelling foreground that complements the Milky Way’s location and position through the night and into the morning. The afternoon at 3pm before we head that out night I will meet with the students to go over a few things and talk about what they are looking for. The afternoons after getting some sleep we will work on doing post-production instruction, so you can walk away with the best image you can imagine.
Things to bring:
- A good tripod
- An open ear
- A Flashlight or headlamp
- Something to munch on
- Gloves the night air gets cool
- A desire to capture some amazing scenes.
Where we will Meet At:
At 3pm on the 20th of March before we head out to the field we will meet at Waterman’s Bar and Grill in Waves, NC to go over a few things. This is just to cover some of the basics and things you will need.
We will head out around 10 pm on the 20th. I have room in my truck for 3 people to ride with me. We will arrive at our location for the a few hours before the Milky Way rises where we can cover compositions and work on doing star trails if anyone is interested. I’m excited to offer this opportunity to capture the awe of the Milky Way to my students and I hope you’ll join me.
My workshop is NOT the kind of event where a tour guide just leads the group to good location. I include a lot of instruction that features the basics all the way up to cutting edge techniques for getting the very best image quality possible. I cover the planning & scouting side, shooting techniques, and post-processing (with post-processing being the deepest area I get into).
